The Lincoln Intermediate Unit #12 is a Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) approved provider for the ESL Program Specialist Certificate. Educators holding valid Instructional I or Instructional II certificate may participate in this certification program. Since the 2004-2005 school year, PDE requires all ESL teachers to hold this certificate in order to teach in the field. The Certificate Program include the following components:

• I. English Usage and Development of Linguistic Awareness (3 credits)
• II. English as a Second Language ¡V Instructional Materials/ Development (3 credits)
• III. English Language Learners (ELLs) and Support Services Knowledge (3 credits)
• IV. Developing Cultural Awareness/ Sensitivity (3 credits)
